Gina Rae LaCerva Feasting Wild
12/17/2020 @ 8:00 PM

Yale School of the Environment and Yale Tropical Resources Institute Fellow Gina Rae LaCerva ’15 MESc, is a geographer, environmental anthropologist, and award-winning writer who has traveled extensively to research a variety of environmental and food-related topics. An avid adventurer, LaCerva has researched tsunamis in Indonesia, crossed the Pacific Ocean on a sailboat, and gone scuba diving with barracudas.
In her book “Feasting Wild. In Search of the Last Untamed Food,” LaCerva traces our relationship to wild foods and shows what we sacrifice when we domesticate them — including biodiversity, Indigenous knowledge, and an important connection to nature. Recommended by the New York Times Book Review for this summer’s reading in Travel, the book chronicles her worldwide quest that takes her to the bushmeat markets of the Democratic Republic of Congo, moose hunting grounds of Sweden and jungles of Borneo, among other places, including an abandoned Winchester gun factory in New Haven.
